Diabetes Transplant Unit at UNSW continued there years of innovative
research by announcing (and showing the world!) an exciting new
procedure.
Janice Stewart, a nurse with Type 1, was injected with human islet cells that had been coated in a seaweed extract - this is hoped to protect the cells from the immune system attack which causes our diabetes in the first place. |
