mike-- i have to say that for the most part i agree with you-- one's actions DO have a direct effect on a1c, and there is no denying that it has much more significance than being "just a number."
unfortunately, however, there are a lot of aspects of diabetes that are out of our hands. in that respect, a1c *is* just a number-- not a measure of ignorance, much less a moral judgment (although i acknowledge that you DID say it's not moral; just also acknowledging the fact that so many people go through such mental anguish because thick-headed MDs *do* treat it as a moral thing-- and so does much of the ignorant public-- "oh, you're 350... being a naughty girl again huh? *vomits on their shoes*...).
your points are more than valid. i think that abi's point might have been that they could have been delivered in perhaps a more tactful or sympathetic manner for those who struggle and still do not "measure up." we can argue (and i myself certainly do enjoy a good debate) but at the end of the day we are all people and "ad hominem" attacks on those with a1cs of 10 are at best, ineffective, because hopeless people are never inspired to change their ways by that kind of thing. did i mention that i DO agree with you?
BTW, i hope you found the chick-fil-a website! but you never answered my question-- DO they have chick-fil-a anywhere in australia? i have got their stuffed cow and a poster and calendar which includes coupons, and i think they might be available online!
*hugs* ;D
