You calso write to Paula Ford-Martin, editor of diabetes.guide@about.com to let her know your opinion. I have just done so (very quickly, not my greatest work but 2 cents nonetheless.), and here 'tis.

Re: Obesity Speeds Onset of Both Types of Diabetes in Kids

Paula,

I was very disappointed at this article on About.com. You would be well aware of the constant battle to save kids from being teased in the school yards, and their mothers from being blamed, for having type 1 diabetes. Whilst many of the facts in the article are accurate: increasing prevalence, one recent study about weight of kids with type 1, etc the conclusion drawn by the headline is misleading and damaging. I expect much more from About.com, and hope you will avoid such “beat ups” in the future.

Yours sincerely,

Kate Gilbert

P.S. I sincerely hope that any spike in traffic to your diabetes pages today, as the diabetes community jumped in to see for themselves this bizarre article, will not be rewarded as a positive endorsement for the article!
