MUCH TO OUR SURPRISE ....

My whole diabetic life I have lived in fairly isolated places and often had only myself to depend on, so to know as much as possible has been imperative. I like to educate myself on all matters "D" rather than rely on GPs and endos. The new technologies session was a particularly educational one for me.

But apart from everything I learnt on the day, the most precious moments were meeting people. I know that sounds supremely corny but its true. Waiting for the West Gate talk i sat quietly when a woman turned around and said I looked like I had more questions about the pregnancy session, which I did. She told me about her pregnancies and all SORTS of stuff. You just can’t get that information in books or clinics. It was absolutely GOLDEN.

My partner and I were among the last to leave which blew me away! I thought it was going to feel like one of those "useful but looooong" days and that we'd probably stay for dinner and rush off home, but no. Met heaps of people and forgot the time!

Also by the end of the night I was touching people’s pump sites with fascination,(with their consent!) when earlier in the day I was too freaked out to even look at one. See, alcohol can be good. It was all really priceless stuff. And my partner had a fab time too, which he definitely wasn't expecting.

So all in all I'd have to say, thanks, it was real!!
