Where were you born and raised? Born in Wagga Wagga NSW... raised at Butterworth in Penang, Malaysia and later... Southampton, England. . Favourite piece of music? I confess to never having progressed past the 80's so 'Wake me up before you go go' coz 'Girls just wanna have fun!' What makes you laugh? My job! I work in a childcare centre as the Before/After School and Vacation Care teacher... the children I care for make me laugh every single day.. they are SO much fun! Your greatest achievement? That's a tough question ... I guess I'd have to say my job again! I know without a doubt that I'm making a difference in the lives of a lot of very special children ... even if it's as simple as listening to them because they had a lousy day at school and having them know that I'm genuinely interested in what they have to say. Goals for the next year? I would love to get more involved in a 'Say No to Drugs' group that I'm already involved in. We educate children in Grade 6 and 7.. so they start high school with some knowledge of what drugs can do.. and how to stand up to peer pressure. If you could have three wishes, what
would they be? What does a hypo feel like? Like being drunk in a sauna! Best/worst/most embarrassing hypo? I was on a train... knew I needed sugar... so stripped my shirt off so I could 'check inside my pockets for jellybeans!' Thank God for good understanding mates! Does everyone around you know about your D? Most people do. I see little point hiding it.. it's not something I should feel ashamed about. I also make sure the children I care for know about it... hopefully then when they meet other children with D they will be understanding. What do you say/do to the food police? I pretty much ignore them... it's kinda sad that the highlight of their life is to boss someone around concerning their diet! Are you a Person with Diabetes or a Diabetic? I'm a diabetic person with diabetes that is a person??? Public injections - what's the etiquette?
I don't have a problem injecting in public... but that said... I
don't stand on a chair for all to watch! I try to respect that some
people might have phobia's... so I'm publicly discreet!
