Ode De Diabetes

by Natasha

I have sugar running through my

blood, More than what I should have,

That's what they said a year ago,

It changed my entire life.

I was numb with fear at first,

Then the tears fell,

As I was given my first shot,

Of insulin that day.

They told me I had diabetes,

Type 1 to be exact,

Then they said there was no cure,

I'd have to inject for life.

Four times a day I test my blood,

Four times do I inject,

Making sure my sugars,

Are in the normal range.

I have to eat on time each day,

And count up all my food,

The freedom that I used to know,

Is just a memory.

Now the treats I used to have,

I take to save my life,

I take them when my sugars fall,

To keep from passing out.

Life's not the same for me no more,

Without insulin I'd die,

I have to think about my sugars,

Each and every day.

Just what goes wrong is still

unknown,

When it comes to this disease,

But every now and then,

Those tears they fall again.
