‘I think I’m suffering from exhaustion,’
said the girl thinking it was cancer
‘I’ll just do some blood tests,’ said the doctor, exhausted
‘Gulp,’ said the girl, thinking this is serious
‘You’re a diabetic I’m afraid.’
‘I’m afraid too,’ said the girl
knowing there was now another trait to
her personality
She was a member of a new club
Certain things never again taken for granted
‘You should know you can never drive
a bus or fly a plane,’
things she had never contemplated
‘Would that worry you doc?’ she asked
‘I’ve never thought about it,’ he answered straightly
‘Never fly a plane, damn, I want to fly a plane.’
The girl was obsessed now.
‘I need to fly a plane, I’m going to apply for my license tomorrow.”
‘Calm down,’ the doctor said.
‘Is there anything you’ve ever wanted to do?’
cried the girl.
‘Now that you mention it, I’ve always wanted
to swim with a dolphin.’
‘What’s stopping you? she demanded
‘I can’t swim,’ he said embarrassed

The girl came to terms with her illness
The doctor took two weeks off,
came back with photos
