Insulin blocked on Medtronic pump

Postby tedos » Sat Feb 24, 2018 6:01 pm

I’ve been getting insulin block errors on my pump for a while now, on and off. I’m actually not sure what is causing it. I’m using the Medtronic 640 with the Mio and also using apidra.

I’ve never had an issue with this for 4 years on the pump, only in the last year or so.

I’m not sure whether it’s the area around my abs that has had scar tissue developed after so many pokes so is blocking it off, or the fault of the canullas or the apidra insulin I’m taking. The canula is not bent when I take it out.

Wondering whether anyone is having the same issue?

I've had the error message occasionally on my 640G, but usually if I just acknowledge them, and go on, they don't occur again and my BGLs are normal. I've found it a nuisance, but it's not been harmful. Don't know if that helps, tedos.

Thanks, but mine won’t go away. It just keeps coming back. I can change the set out, and it’s usually fine for the first 24 hours, then it starts all over again.

Can I ask, are you also using apidra?

No, I'm on Humalog. I didn't know that Apidra was used in pumps (officially).

I’ve been using it since I started pumping. Only in the last year or so these errors started

It might be worthwhile trying a different cannula etc. I use the Sure-T, and have found they're pretty good. Maybe you could contact your rep or DE and ask for a couple of different types of lines, cannulas etc and see if that fixes the problem.

out of interest did you check your infusion sets with this recall?

I use Medtronic paradigm and humalog, I've only had one error relating to delivery in 4 years.
