| My Olympic Experience |
|
Being Technical Officials we were (more often than not) treated like very important people, with extra privileges giving us further lasting memories. Apart from the tennis, I also managed to witness Cathy Freeman win the 400m – wow what an atmosphere! I saw the baseball semi-final between USA and Korea, and also the Australian Opals basketball team in action. Words would not do justice to describe what is was like. It was the most amazing experience. On top of all this I met Prime Minister John Howard, and was within meters of Gary Hall Jnr. (Unfortunately my photo didn’t turn out as someone else stepped in the way!) I also wasn’t quick enough to get a photo of both of us to put in Yada Yada. Other athletes/celebrities I had close encounters with included (lots of tennis players of course), Dawn Fraser, Laurie Lawrence, Nova Peris Kneebone, Billie Jean King, Fatso and many others. My 2 weeks were an absolute sensation. I can’t believe how lucky I was to experience such an event – and to be a part of the Officials team. It is a time I will remember and cherish forever. I think I came back a changed person – there isn’t anything now that I believe I can’t do. I have come back with a new lease on life and a far more positive outlook. Kim P.S.
